Music Choices for your Wedding Continues
baumanphotographers Here are some things we have learned along the way that we’d like to share with you:

Your Wedding Music Coordinator: Having a designated person to oversee the music and announcements throughout the wedding day is invaluable. Even with a wedding planner coordinating the day, the music is typically the one area that goes unsupervised. From the Grand Entrance of the couple to the toasts, dinner music, first dance, cake cutting, and various breaks in the music, having an experienced lead musician or DJ to make sure just the right music is played (or not played) at each moment of the wedding will help carry the guests’ in the right direction and add the finishing touches.

Jazz vs. Cover Band? Of course, your music tastes are very important, and that includes the tastes of your guests. Jazz (the original American art form) has become a hot music choice for wedding receptions recently, and it’s no surprise. Jazz brings a mix of classic and nostalgic with contemporary music that is familiar and comfortable to all ages. Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra have been joined by contemporary jazz artists such as Michael Buble, Diana Krall, and Corinne Bailey Rae, and many people have taken up swing, salsa, samba, and other world dancing. In addition to classic jazz favorites, Alli & the Cats perform a variety of international jazz from Brazil, France, Italy, Latin America, and Japan. Consider the age of your average guests, what kind of music they like, and if they are a “dancing” crowd, what kind of dancing they enjoy. If many of your guests are under 30 and like dancing in nightclubs, a cover band may be a good choice. If you have a blend of guests of different ages and lifestyles, jazz holds something for everyone.

Live vs. DJ – or both? There is no substitute for the style and ambiance of the “human element” of live music. That said, some couples choose a DJ because they want more variety of music played. Alli & the Cats work together with DJs to offer ambient live music during the cocktail hour and dinner music, and then kick the dance music in with a DJ for the last 1-2 hours.760-479-2477

You'll need to get a good sense about the number of attendees you wish to have before selecting your event facility so you can be confident that it will be appropriate for the crowd.

2. Less is More.
Destination weddings can be expensive not only for those getting married, but also for those attending. Try to be mindful of that when selecting your wedding site so those who are closest to you can afford to attend. Consider having your wedding during the off-season so costs will be lower. Traditionally, accommodation expenses are covered for the bridesmaids by the bride's family and for the groomsmen by the groom's family. All other guests should be responsible for their own expenses. Most hotels will work with you to offer group discounts.

3. Assist your Guests.
You may know the location that you will be flying off to for your dream wedding like the back of your hand, but most of your guests will not. Your wedding website can be a tool to help you educate your guests about the area, local attractions, accommodation ideas, the weather and directions. Making their job easier will only amount in a larger turnout at your wedding. Use your website to remind them of the things they may not consider such as a passport if required for your chosen location.
