Diamonds are a girls best friend Zelman photo

Choosing the perfect wedding ring requires some investigative work. And lets face it, not all girls like diamonds, but for those who do, here are a few tips:

Metal Choices
It is best to work with a reputable dealer when shopping for rings, settings or stones. You will have to make the choice of, Yellow Gold, White Gold or Platinum.

Know your 4 C's
It is important to know the 4 C's. Did you know that there aren't two diamonds exactly alike in the world? Ask about price guarantees, exchanges and upgrades. You will want to add your wedding rings to your insurance policy, at your earliest convenience. Article continues here

Caring for your Ring

Take advantage of the free routine cleaning that many jewelers offer their clients. They will usually check the stone settings as well, to make sure your stones are secured and not loose.

Between your routine cleanings with your jeweler, you may want to give your rings an extra quick shine at
home.Tips below:
Home Cleaning Details
Place your ring in a bowl of warm water and a mild liquid soap. You can also use jewelry cleaning solution. Use a soft toothbrush to clean the diamond/diamonds, as it will get into all the crevices underneath and in between the setting. Rinse with warm water and dry with a lint-free cloth. This will keep it shining until your next routine cleaning from your jeweler.

JewelryZales
* Rings should be ordered 3 months in advance it possible.
* Decide if you want your rings engraved.
* Decide on other pieces of jewelry you want to wear.

* Traditionally the best man holds the brides ring.
* The maid of honor holds the grooms ring.

Band or DJ? …and other Wedding Music Questions, By Delene St. Clair of Hot Pursuit Music Entertainment

Hot Pursuit Music Entertainment

“Band or DJ?” The answer is another question: “Why not both?” Bands are more popular and more affordable than ever, especially in these economic times. One “Bride Blogger” wrote: “I think a band is actually better than DJ because it's more personal. And those not wanting to dance get to watch and enjoy the band.” Some bands will include a DJ at no additional charge—a sure cure for “The Recession Blues”. Then you have the best of both worlds. But whether band, DJ or both, don’t skimp on the music. It encompasses the ENTIRE wedding and is the “insurance” for all the other money spent. People will remember how they felt at your wedding, probably not the flavor of your cake. Cont. on pg. 7

It's a great time to take notes and grab business cards from your favorite vendors. Band or DJ? Continues from page 4

Hulse Photography - Dance

Your friend with an iPod won’t cut it either. Hire professionals. If you can, hire a band with both male and female vocalists and sax to provide the most variety. Great music makes a great party!

“Do you provide an MC?” If the Band/DJ specializes in weddings (that is, they are not a “bar band/DJ”), they have an MC fronting the band who is classy and fun without being “cheesy”. The MC should be able to gracefully announce the First Dance, toasts, cake-cutting and other events, as well as connecting with your guests, “reading the crowd” and mixing the music so that the dance floor is shakin’ all night long!

“I want one-stop-shopping for the music!” Fear not! Most wedding music vendors will provide a beautiful duo-4 piece ensemble of guitar, flute, and strings for the ceremony (for example), then a jazzy or island-feel duo for cocktails to set the party mood, and a classy and high-energy band/DJ for the dinner and reception to cover all genres and generations from Sinatra to Santana to Shakira. Happy Planning! Back to Page 4

A Piece of Heaven

Hulse Photography - Cale

Cake sampling is probably the best aspect of planning your wedding, that's if you' have a sweet tooth like me.

Searching for the pastry chef that will create your wedding cake also takes some serious planning. It's really a big decsion! Let us help you

Personalization and Creativity is key!

Start your search
at www.WeddingConnections.com, but also get referrals from family and Friends.

Prepare a list
Prepare a list of questions to ask before you speak to pastry chefs. Note dietary considerations.

Narrow your Choices
Narrow your choices from the list you gathered and set appointments. Be sure to bring along photos you collected as samples of your desired look. Just like when you go grocery shopping, never go on an empty stomach. Make sure you have a light meal before your tasting appointments.

eco-conscious
If you are eco-conscious, as most of us these days, ask about the ingredients that are to be used in preparing your cake. Ask pastry chefs if they buy local and if their purveyors offer organic ingredients, such as fresh fruit that is in season, grains that are organically grown, etc.

Layer Options
Multiple layer flavors is very popular choice. Ask to have each tier a different flavor! Many bridal couples opt for this, as it offers their guest choices. The pastry chef will be able to recommend cake frostings, that complement all tiers.

Tasting
A s you start your tasting duties a yummy cake tasting lineup of the flavors you requested to try, along with a palate cleanser will await you. Take notes.

Finally
You will know which cake is the perfect cake for you, as your taste buds will jump for joy when you taste that perfect piece of heaven!

Happy Cake Tasting!
