While all of the choices to be made regarding the details of your wedding celebration are important, perhaps the most serious one is in choosing the person who will speak to you and for you as you recite your wedding vows and promises to each other. You will want someone who will take the time to get to know you as a couple and the style and mood of the ceremony you wish to create. Someone who will guide you in the direction you want to go with regard to a contemporary or more traditional type of wedding ceremony and someone who will not just read a script but will allow you to use your own personal thoughts and ideas. One who is caring and professional and who will be sensitive to your wishes as well as having the ability to speak eloquently on your behalf as you recite your wedding vows to each other. One who will be a calming presence for you on your wedding day.

If you are a couple who share religious beliefs, you may choose to marry in a church and have your ceremony performed by a priest, rabbi or minister of the church you have chosen. If you are of different spiritual backgrounds or decide not to be married in a church setting, you will be looking for a non-denominational minister (also known as an officiant or celebrant). These individuals are licensed to perform marriages as are judges, ship captains and the county clerk.
