Perfect Keepsakes

Find the things you will treasure forever

By: Bonnie Sumner

Congratulations! You must be getting married. The perfect keepsakes can give you joy in the years beyond your wedding day. At I Do, I Do Keepsakes, I create garters, flower baskets, ring pillows, toasting glasses, bride’s purses and more. My creations range from the traditional to those with a more contemporary flair. I use any manner of ribbon, lace, bows, beads and flowers to make unique items. Fresh flowers are beautiful and a must, but on your keepsake items, you want embellishments that will last forever. I can make stylized ribbon flowers or use organza or silk flowers. Color coordinated flowers and ribbons carry your scheme throughout your celebration. I will be happy to work with you to create your customized keepsake.

Garters can be sassy or extravagant or sweet and simple. These are especially fun to add a flourish of a crystal heart or a whimsical charm. Ring pillows are a great tradition to give the rings a place of honor and reverence. Toasting glasses that are used at the reception for those congratulatory toasts can be used year after year on your anniversary. I can add embellishments to your personalized or heirloom glasses as well. Flower baskets for the flower girl range from very small for the littlest of girls to moderate size for young girls, and larger baskets for holding greeting cards, favors, bubbles, etc. And every bride could use a small purse at the reception to hold tissue, lipstick and all the dollars from the dollar dance.

All these items can be created to reflect your particular style, or I have a selection of items that I have made as the inspiration strikes me. I hope I can help make your special day a unique and memorable one. Here are a couple hints for you to consider . . .

- It’s best if the ring pillow carry permanently attached symbolic rings. They need to be secure for when the little ring bearer gets antsy and starts spinning the pillow like a propeller.

- You surely don’t want your beautiful garter to end up on some guy’s rear view mirror. So the groom could have a generic garter tucked in his pocket to exchange for the one he just slide off your leg and toss that one to the bachelors.

- The bride’s purse need not match her gown exactly. Gold, silver or white brocades are stunning compliments to most gowns.

Take a few minutes to think about what you would want as your keepsakes and let me take care of the details. They are just little things, but they will be cherished keepsakes for many years. I look forward to making your dream wedding come true.
