Tips on Choosing the Right Sacramento Caterer

Finding Great Food for Your Sacramento Wedding

By: Sheri Ryan

Your wedding is a very special day. Choosing the right wedding caterer is a very important decision. First off, you want to make sure your caterer offers great food! The food at your wedding is one thing your guests will remember.

The caterer will be responsible for preparing, cooking, decorating and serving the food. The caterer will also be responsible for non-alcoholic beverages and for cleaning up food related items after your event. Before signing a contract, make sure you understand all the services the caterer will provide. Your contract should state the amount and type of food and beverages that will be served, the way in which they will be served, the number of servers who will be available, the cost per item or person.

Things To Consider: When hiring a caterer, check to see if the location for your reception provides refrigeration and cooking equipment. If not, make sure your caterer is fully self supported with portable refrigeration and heating equipment. A competent caterer will prepare much of the food in his/her own kitchen and should provide an adequate staff of cooks, servers, and bartenders. Ask for references and look at photos from previous parties so you know how the food will be presented; or better yet, visit an event they are catering. Your wedding caterer should provide excellent service on the day of the wedding and manages many of the wedding planning details for you. Looks for an experienced caterer for your special day.

Food can be served either buffet style or as a sit-down meal. This decision is generally made based on budget, the time of day, year, and formality of the wedding. Although there are many main dishes to choose from, chicken and beef are the most popular selections for a large event. Ask your caterer for their specialty or if they can incorporate families recipes into your menu. If you have a special type of food you would like to serve at your reception, select a facility or caterer who specializes in preparing it. Here are some great ideas for cutting your catering costs:

You can offer vegetable, fruit an meat platters with dips and crackers instead of foods.

You can offer a soup and salad menu rather than a full blown entree.

Offer around the world appetizers instead of a meal. This will give you the opportunity to offer fill ups such as crab, shrimp. Etc. as well as casual appetizers like cheese sticks, chicken wings, and mushroom caps etc. the around the world motif will also provide your party with a variety of different tastes.
